![]() ![]() I did some additional investigation and it made an awful lot of sense if My Grandmother was the illigitamate daughter of Prince Arthur of Connaught. So, it would make a lot of sense, based on the DNA sharing, if Victoria were the common ancestor. His Great Grandfather was the illigitamate son of Edward VII, Victoria's son. To my incredible surprise he said that there was some scandal in his family too. So, I emailed him asking about his heritage and happened to mention my family legend. I checked his family tree and there were no surnames similar to my Mum's known ancestors (I've done them all back about 5-6 generations). The closest match outside her known immediate family was a high likelihood 3rd cousin. Still, I was interested to find out who my grandfather was so I had my Mum's DNA tested on. Until last week I had always put this down to a convenient family legend trying to make a young woman's indiscretion at a time and place when it was certainly unacceptable seem somehow less "shameful". He couldn't stand to see my Grandmother living in poverty so he had his mother take her away. He was recalled soon after getting her pregnant but returned to marry her later, only to find her married off (I still don't believe this part). My Grandmother's father was apparently a "Scottish Lord", who fell in love with my Great Grandmother while visiting family in Tetbury. ![]() At a very early age a "Lady" took my grandmother from the family and placed her in a convent where she was raised and schooled. Her mother was quickly married off to the local coachman My Grandmother was born in 1905 in Tetbury, Glocestershire, England Sorry - accidental double post and cant seem to delete it. It's a small gesture but seriously, respect peoples' time & effort in helping you out. It's perfectly OK to ask for any info if you're looking for fresh leads, but you can help people to focus their efforts & look at the correct sources if you are more specific. Be clear & specific about what info you want help finding.Don't make people waste their time by duplicating work.
